1. Scouting is a voluntary organization based on the principles set forth in the Scout Law, Scout Oath and Outdoor Code.  All Scouts are expected to adhere to these principles and respect and comply with the requests and directions of the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters, Patrol Leaders and aduatlt leadership of the Troop.  It is the role of all adults associated with Troop 404 to reinforce these principles and to support the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters in the enforcement of rules and appropriate behavior.
    1. No member of Troop 404 or any adult attending a Scouting function will engage in any activity or conduct which is inconsistent with the principles of BSA, any local, state or federal law, or any activity which would bring disrepute upon BSA, Troop 404 or our Charter Organization.
    2. Each Scout is required to read and sign a Code of Conduct form which is filed in their personal folder kept by the Scoutmaster.   This form is updated on an annual basis.
    3. Any boy whose actions pose a perceived danger to himself or others during Scouting activities will be sent home.  It will be the Scout’s parent’s responsibility to supply transportation home for the Scout.  The Scoutmaster or designated representative will contact the boy’s parents or guardians to discuss what has happened and to discuss ways the family and the Troop can work together to better integrate the boy into the Scouting program.  Serious safety issues and/or inappropriate behavior by a Scout will be handled by the Scoutmaster and the Troop Committee.  Reviews and disciplinary actions will involve the boy’s parents or guardians.
  2. While no document can fully cover every instance of behavioral problems in violation of Troop Guidelines, the following are some examples of inappropriate behavior:
    1. Any derogatory or inflammatory statement or conduct.
    2. Use of obscene language or signs.
    3. Intimidating or bullying conduct, whether physical or verbal.
    4. Abuse or misuse of public or private property.
    5. Disobeying adults or Scouts in a leadership position.
    6. Scouts who have their Totem’ Chip in their possession can carry pocket knives of a folding nature with a maximum blade length of 3”.  Any abuse of knife or axe safety observed by a leader will be grounds for losing a corner off his Totem’ Chip.  When all corners are gone, the Scout’s Totem’ Chip will be confiscated and he will lose the right to carry a knife.
    7. Sheath knives are not permitted at any function.
    8. Aerosol cans are not permitted at any function.
    9. Handheld electronic devices (CD players, Game Boys, etc.) are not permitted at Scout functions including Troop meetings and campouts.  These devices may be permitted when traveling to/from activities, but are to remain in the vehicle upon arrival.
    10. Cell phones are to be used for emergencies only.  We strongly discourage Scouts from carrying cell phones while on campouts.  Adult leaders will have cell phones which Scouts can use if needed for emergencies.
SM or designee will collect cell phones until after outing.
    11. Fuel based lanterns or open flames are not allowed inside tents.
    12. Fireworks of any kind are not permitted.
    13. Firearms of any kind are not permitted.
    14. Alcohol and drugs are not permitted.
    15. No gambling will be allowed at any time.
    16. Fires are to be built using guidelines in the BSA handbook.  Misuse of fire will result in the suspension of fire privileges.
    17. All wood used for fires will be dead.  Live trees shall not be cut.  FOG wood (found on ground) is the only wood to be used for fires.
    18. All garbage, aluminum cans, bottles, etc. shall be properly disposed in appropriate containers or packed out with gear.
    19. Adult conversations at meetings shall be held outside the meeting area.
    20. Scouts that sign up for activities will be responsible for the cost of the activity unless the cancellation is made before the activity deadline.  Activity costs may include food, trip and camping fees.
