- The Troop and Patrol Quartermasters are responsible for tracking the location, condition and maintenance of all Troop equipment.
- Troop equipment borrowed must be promptly returned to the Troop in a clean and dry condition.
- The following items are prohibited during any Scouting function: sheath knives, camouflage clothing, electronic devices.
- Scouts may possess a folding pocket knife with a blade less than 3” in length provided the Scout has earned his “Totin’ Chip”. Scouts may possess matches after they have earned their “Fireman Chit”.
- Individual equipment needed includes:
- Boy Scout Handbook – Scout will keep his personal advancement records up-to-date in this book. Scouts should take this book on all outings.
- Sleeping Bag – Troop 404 camps year-round. Be sure that your bag is warm enough for winter camping. It should also be lightweight for easy backpacking. A fleece or silk liner also adds warmth in cold weather.
- Pillow – Inflatable or compression pillows save space.
- Sleeping Pad – Comfortable and lightweight.
- Mess Kit – Each Scout needs a plate, bowl, cup and eating utensils. Mark each item with Scout’s name.
- Water Bottle – durable with clip to attach to pack or belt.
- Rain Gear – A good quality rain suit (nylon is best).
- Flashlight – Pick a color that is easy to find. Head lamp w/ strap is best.
- Footwear – Each Scout should invest in a pair of high quality hiking boots as well as several pair of good socks. No open-toed shoes are allowed.
- Toiletry Case – something to keep Scout’s toiletry items together.
- Personal First Aid Kit – This should be small and compact.
- Whistle – A better emergency signal than yelling in the woods.
Each patrol is assigned equipment supplied by the Troop such as: chuck box, propane stove, cooking equipment/utensils, lanterns, tarps, rope and tents. These items are to be used by the patrols and not to be loaned to individuals without permission from the Scoutmaster.
